Beyoncé Knowles is equally successful as a recording artist and a movie star. Her face and body appear in hundreds of magazines and movie screens worldwide. For her role in "Dreamgirls," she completed the extreme Master Cleanse, which was introduced in 1976 by alternative medicine practitioner and author Stanley Burroughs. Consult your doctor before starting this cleanse.

The Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse that Knowles used is a type of detoxification diet with the main objective of eliminate disease-causing toxins from your body. During the diet period, which lasted for about two weeks, she drank a combination of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup mixed with water. Knowles drank the mixture six to 12 times daily along with herbal teas and eliminated all other foods during this period.

Formula

The lemonade diet is easy to prepare but requires the ingredients be mixed properly, in the right amounts, to achieve health benefits. Basic ingredients include two tbsp. of fresh lemon juice, 1/10 tsp. of cayenne pepper, 2 tbsp. of maple syrup and 8 oz. of pure water. The lemons should be at room temperature before preparing them, to enhance the effectiveness of the formula.

Health Benefits

The Master Cleanse diet can help eliminate harmful, disease-causing toxins and rejuvenate your body, according to MayoClinic.com. This may help your body become healthy and function optimally and also relieves stress caused by the buildup of toxins in the body. The Master Cleanse diet promotes health digestion by improving the absorption of minerals and nutrients from food and also helps people shed pounds quickly.

Making Permanent Changes

The Master Cleanse should only be done for a maximum of 10 to 14 days because longer periods may have a negative effect on health and may cause malnutrition. While the cleanse helps people lose weight and eliminate toxins, in order for changes become permanent, dieters must eat a healthy diet and live a healthy lifestyle following the cleanse. Eliminate smoking and processed or preserved food, as they can cause toxin buildup.
