Trimipramine Side Effects

Trimipramine is a medication used to treat depression. As a tricyclic antidepressant, it works to balance certain chemicals in your brain called neurotransmitters. According to Medline Plus, it is available as a capsule that is usually taken one to three times daily. Tell your doctor about your medical history and medications, as they may cause major side effects when combined with trimipramine.

Psychiatric Side Effects

Trimipramine can worsen your psychiatric manifestations and cause new ones to develop. For example, this medication may cause anxiety, panic attacks, irritability, trouble sleeping and aggressiveness, states Drugs.com. You may feel impulsive, restless and hyperactive. In some instances, your feelings of sadness and isolation can become so critical that you develop suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Notify your doctor if you experience these effects.

Skin Sensitivity

Medline Plus states that trimipramine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid sunlight and wear a wide-brimmed hat with protective clothing. Apply sunscreen with a sunscreen protecting factor of at least 15 to your skin.
