Elite lacrosse programs, no matter what their level of play, want the best available athletes on their teams. To fulfill this need, the programs host tryouts to evaluate the skills, ability level and work ethic of potential players. Each tryout has a specific procedure to ensure their efficiency for both the potential athletes and the coaches.

Division

Each lacrosse team and program involves a specific division based on ability or age. As a result, begin by finding the tryout for your lacrosse division. Players may commonly progress up to the next division but don't get to move down to the previous division. Contact the coach or program director to confirm the exact division and any other important details about the tryout.

Registration

Complete an online registration or R.S.V.P. form, or email the coach, to sign up for the tryout in advance. The registration announcement provides tryout information such as time, place and necessary equipment. Once registered, expect the organizers to provide you with a number, name tag and position so the evaluators and coaches can identify you

Drills

Follow the instructions of the coaches and evaluators as they lead you through various drills during the tryout. Tryout organizers maximize the amount of time spent completing drills or movements they can evaluate. Before beginning, they assign you to a group that rotates through the different drills. This results in maximum exposure throughout the tryout.

Selection

Work hard as organizers evaluate talent prior to the final procedure for lacrosse tryouts, the selection of players. After the drills, all of the coaches meet to sort and compare evaluations and rankings. These evaluations lead to votes or nominations for spots on the roster. After they choose the team, they typically notify the players by phone or email with details on who made the team and about the first practice or competition.
