The Warrior Diet was created by Ori Hofmekler, who claims that his program will help you lose weight and improve your health and fitness. You may not think that eating dessert is conducive to weight loss, but the Warrior Diet allows a sweet treat during certain parts of the day. Always talk with your doctor before beginning a new weight loss program.

How It Works

The Warrior Diet is based on the idea that cycling phases of overeating with phases of undereating stimulates your nervous system, which promotes alertness and energy and improves your reaction to stress. The diet also allows your body to more efficiently burn fat and detoxify, according to Hofmekler. This happens due to when and how much you eat throughout the day.

Timing

Undereating occurs during the day and overeating happens at night, on the Warrior Diet, which Hofmekler claims will boost your metabolism and result in weight loss. During the undereating phase, which occurs during the day, permitted foods include coffee, tea, soup, yogurt and raw fruits and vegetables. During the day, combine undereating with exercise to maximize the weight loss and health benefits of the Warrior Diet. Overeating allows you to eat as much as you want from each food group, dessert included, but only at night. Hofmekler recommends starting with protein, fats and vegetables and then eating carbohydrates if you are still hungry.

Dessert

Since most desserts are made with ingredients that are not included during the undereating phase, it should be eaten at night during your overeating time. Hofmekler provides several recipes that fit well with the program on his website and in his book. They include pumpkin cheesecake, crepes, berries with yogurt and gelatin. The desserts are lower in sugar and saturated fat than many commercially prepared desserts at supermarkets and restaurants, but will still satisfy a sweet craving.

Considerations

When following a meal plan that restricts what you eat, you may be more apt to binge eat later due to feelings of deprivation. For some, the Warrior Diet may make it easier to resist overeating during the day since you know you can eat as much as you want at your nighttime meal. For others, intense hunger once night falls sets them up for eating more than they should, which could mean eating too many calories for successful weight loss. If you want to lose weight, but can't give up dessert, the Warrior Diet may help you by letting you indulge every day. Hofmekler has no medical background to back up his claims, so exercise caution when taking his advice.
