The "blood type diet" was created by Dr. Peter D'Adamo based on research correlating blood type and health to food consumption. He created a diet that emphasizes eating foods that support your blood type and avoiding those foods that don't. He believes that consuming nourishing foods can help safeguard you from disease. While Dr. D'Adamo's diet has a basis in scientific research, nutrition and diet experts remain skeptical. Always consult your doctor before starting a new diet and exercise caution when dieting.
Type O
Step 1
Consume a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet. Type O individuals are the "hunters" of the group and, according to Dr. D'Adamo, should consume a larger quantity of meat to stay healthy.
Step 2
Cook meat, particularly lean beef, turkey, chicken, lamb and seafood.
Step 3
Eat vegetables and fruits, especially green leafy vegetables such as kale and collard greens.
Step 4
Avoid dairy products, wheat breads and pastas.
Step 5
Eat eggs only in moderation.
Type A
Step 1
Eat a vegetarian, plant-based diet. Cook foods that are made from plant sources such as hearty vegetables and soy products.
Step 2
Consume low-fat dairy products, such a yogurt, milk and cheese.
Step 3
Cook with oils, including olive oil, vegetable oil and coconut oil.
Step 4
Avoid all meat products and whole-fat dairy products. Type A individuals should also limit their intake of citrus fruits, peppers and tomatoes.
Type B
Step 1
Include a wide range of food in your diet. Type B individuals are the "omnivores" of the group and are nourished by a combination of meat, grains and plant-based products.
Step 2
Cook lamb, beef, soy products and eggs for protein. Include fruits and vegetables with every meal.
Step 3
Avoid chicken, shellfish and pork products. Wheat, rye and corn should be eaten in moderation.
Type AB
Step 1
Cook a variety of foods. An AB diet is similar to the omnivorous Type B diet.
Step 2
Try eating turkey, lamb and cultured dairy products, such as yogurt, kefir and sour cream.
Step 3
Supplement your diet with tofu, rice and grains. Cherries and plums are especially nourishing for Type AB individuals.
Step 4
Avoid chicken, beef and smoked meats. Tropical fruits and bananas should also be avoided.
