Kickball is a simple and fun game that resembles baseball. It's a childhood sport that many adults continue to love. When teaching kickball to a group of people, educate them on the the rules, the logistics, the playing field and techniques to help them succeed.

Playing Logistics

Step 1

Inform players that kickball uses a large red ball, bases and two teams of 8 to 11 players.

Step 2

Explain that the object of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team during the game's five innings.

Step 3

Educate the players on the different player positions in the outfield: pitcher, first baseman, third baseman, second baseman, roaming shortstop, one to three outfielders and team catcher.

Step 4

Tell players to choose their player positions. Depending on the number of players each team has, decide who play where.

Step 5

Ask each team to decide on the batting order. Use a coin toss to decide which team bats first.

The Playing Field

Step 1

Explain the concept of the kickball playing field. Tell players that the playing field should be on level ground and large enough to hold a diamond with four bases.

Step 2

Construct the diamond with the aid of a tape measure. The kickball diamond should be a square with equal sides of 60 feet.

Step 3

Explain that the field has four bases that are positioned at the corners of each side. One is home plate.

Rules

Step 1

Tell the batting team that players should stand about 20 feet behind home plate and cheer on teammates who are batting.

Step 2

Explain that the catcher must pitch the ball by hand, and no restrictions exist on pitching style. Bounces are allowed in kickball.

Step 3

Tell the players about the safe zones in kickball. Explain that safe zones are areas on which they can't be tagged out. The only safe zones are the four bases, and the runner must touch the plate with a body part to be safe.

Step 4

Advise playerd that If the ball is caught from in air without touching the field first, the kicker is out.

Step 5

Explain that after the batting team scores three outs, its players switch to the outfield and the outfielders rotate to bat.

Playing the Game

Step 1

Explain that the outfield players will enter the outfield and assume their field position. The batting team will line up in order of first to last batter.

Step 2

Explain to the batting team that batters come up in order. Tell the first batter to come up to home plate. Inform the batter that the catcher will pitch the ball and she is required to hit the ball.

Step 3

Explain that once the batter has kicked the ball, he should run the course of the four bases -- first, second, third and home plate.

Step 4

Instruct players that the outfield players' job is to catch the ball they kicked and tag them out.
