Tiki taka soccer is a playing style that moves the ball up the field from player to player. Teammates use short passes and quick touches as they work together to move the soccer ball forward and into the scoring goal. Tiki taka, used by the Barcelona team, may also be described as touch-touch. When your players master this style, it resembles a large game of keep-away with the opposing team scrambling to touch the ball. Your players need to know what the goal is and how to perform quick passes. The ability to move into open field space is also necessary for a perfect tiki taka game.
Drills
Step 1
Form two parallel lines with your players. Give a ball to players on one side of the line. Instruct each one to one-touch pass the ball to the player across from him. Practice one-touch passing for five minutes.
Step 2
Place your athletes in a circle. Use one ball. Have players one-touch pass the ball randomly around the circle. Perform this drill for five or 10 minutes.
Step 3
Place your athletes in their field positions. Use one ball. One-touch pass the ball from the goalie through the defenders, midfielders and forwards to the opposite goal.
Coach
Step 1
Stand on the field where you are able to see all the players. Keep players in front of, not behind, you at all times.
Step 2
Move around the perimeter of play to see different perspectives of the drills and offer specific instructions to individual players.
Step 3
Bring the player to you when giving individual instruction so you maintain visual contact with the other players.
Step 4
Position your players in a half circle when giving visual or physical demonstrations of the drills.
Step 5
Position yourself looking into the sun, rain or wind when giving instructions so your athletes are able to focus their concentration on you.
