If you incur bladder problems such as urinary tract infection, interstitial cystitis, incontinence or urinary urgency, your diet might be to blame. It is important that you seek advice from your physician and take any medications prescribed for your bladder problems. However, certain foods might contribute to these problems, and eliminating them might alleviate bladder pain and inflammation.
.
Fruit
Most fresh fruits are part of a healthy diet, although some do contain properties that can irritate your bladder. Eating citrus fruits like lemons, kiwi and oranges, plus tomatoes, may result in a burning sensation during urination and bladder pain, or cause indigestion.
Caffeine
Caffeine is found in coffee and certain teas, like black and green teas. This stimulant may create bladder problems. Caffeine is a diuretic that may promote bladder spasms in some people, as well as a sudden need to use the bathroom. It also dehydrates your body, which also irritates your bladder and causes incontinence.
Artificial Sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners are traditionally used in lieu of sugar to provide a sweetness to food and beverages, without extra calories. The problem is, some chemicals like aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame and saccharin can aggravate your bladder if you have interstitial cystitis, according to the Interstitial Cystitis Network.
Chocolate
If you have a sweet tooth, you may not want to hear this, but milk chocolate found in candy bars, chocolate pieces and other confections can be harmful to the bladder. It contains high levels of histamine, which can cause an allergic reaction. White and dark chocolates are more favorable if consumed in small amounts.
Alcohol
Alcohol is considered a diuretic, and one of the worst beverages for your bladder health. The more you drink, the more it triggers the feeling of dehydration, because of increased urine production.
