Description
Portable infrared heaters are a convenient way to evenly warm up a space. They are also quiet and can be used in areas where they will not interfere with conversation and music. Portable infrared heaters are also efficient, using less energy than most traditional heaters. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are effective for spot or area heating, indoors or outside. They are also easy to move to wherever they are needed and will warm up a space quickly and safely.
Infrared Technology
Infrared heat is a form of light energy that is outside the range of human vision, just beyond the color red in the visible spectrum. In fact, the heat you feel from the sun's rays is a result of exposure to infrared light. Infrared heaters warm a space by radiating infrared energy into the space. This allows for direct heating or the use of smaller, quieter and more energy-efficient fans to circulate the heated air.
Construction
Infrared heaters are basically a type of lamp. Instead of having an incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, they have either a tubular steel element or a luminous quartz or ceramic element that produces energy in the infrared range of the spectrum. Others will have a heat exchanger that will take up the heat from the element. A fan will then blow across the exchanger to heat the room. Infrared heaters can be powered by gas or electricity. A thermostat controls the unit and can be set to a specific temperature to turn the unit on or off as needed.
Application
Infrared heaters that radiate directly are available for both indoors and outdoor use. Large direct radiant heaters are often used outdoors to heat large areas on restaurants patios and other outside venues. Infrared heaters that use a heat exchanger type are often in the form of a small cabinet on wheels and are frequently used indoors as supplementary heating.
