Boxers are a popular breed of dog most noted for their loyal, sweet, playful yet protective nature. But this medium-size breed is susceptible to many health conditions and ailments, including histiocytic ulcerative colitis. This condition is often referred to as boxer colitis, due to the breed's predisposition to this disease. However, many digestive problems can be alleviated by providing your dog with fresh, unprocessed foods.
Meat Preparation
Step 1
Place 2/3 pound of ground beef in a frying pan or skillet and cook over medium heat to feed a 40-pound dog for one day. Toss and stir the beef to prevent burning.
Step 2
Cook the beef until all the meat is evenly browned. Drain any excess grease from the meat in a small bowl and set aside to discard later.
Step 3
Cover the beef and set aside until all ingredients are prepared and ready to be mixed.
Cooking Vegetables
Step 1
Heat 2 cups of water in a medium-size saucepan over medium-high to high heat. Watch the water to make sure it does not boil over the saucepan.
Step 2
Combine 1 cup of green peas and 1 cup of baby carrots in boiling water. Cook over medium to medium-high heat, stirring every few minutes, for approximately 10 minutes, or until the carrots are tender.
Step 3
Remove the peas and carrots from the heat source and drain through a colander. Set the vegetables aside with the ground beef until it's time to combine all the ingredients.
Cooking Rice and Combining Ingredients
Step 1
Bring 2 cups of water to boil in a medium-size saucepan. Add 2 cups of brown rice and stir periodically to prevent sticking. Cook for approximately 10 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed.
Step 2
Combine the rice, ground beef and vegetables in a bowl. Allow the mixture to cool before serving to your boxer.
Step 3
Serve your boxer half the food mixture. Cover and refrigerate the remaining mixture for his second daily meal.
