Losing 10 pounds in seven days is not impossible, but it is very challenging. Any personal trainer or nutritionist will tell you that you must burn 3,500 calories to take off a single pound of body weight. Therefore, in order to lose 10 pounds you must burn 35,000 calories. However, this does not account for water weight and muscle, which can be readily burned by the body when calories are low. A 10-pound weight loss in a week's time will most likely consist of a combination of water, fat and muscle loss.
Step 1
Try a 1-to-3-day fast to kick off your seven-day diet. Paul C. Bragg advocated the use of fasting for cleansing the body and managing body weight. In his book "The Miracle of Fasting," he recommends using apple cider vinegar, honey and distilled water 3-to-5 times a day to cleanse and keep hunger at bay. Fasting can cause weight loss ranging from 5-to-10 pounds in a relatively short amount of time, according to Bragg.
Step 2
Eat five or six small meals a day to optimize metabolic function. According to Mackie Shilstone's "Fat Burning Bible," 30 percent protein, 30 percent fat and 40 percent carbohydrates is the optimal ratio for weight loss. Consider taking in two or three of those meals from liquid protein sources such as whey protein mixed with water or liquid amino acids.
Step 3
Purchase a fat-burner from your local health retailer, such as the Vitamin Shoppe. Fat-burners containing 200 milligrams of caffeine and 300 milligrams of epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, from green tea extract, can accelerate weight loss, according to Jeff "the Muscle Nerd" Anderson. For a decaffeinated alternative, try Garden of Life's Fucothin, which claims to increase metabolic rate significantly without stimulants.
Step 4
Purchase a natural diuretic product such as Xpel by MHP or Cuts II from Prolab. Diuretics are substances that encourage the elimination of excess fluid from the body. Some individuals can quickly lose 5-to-10 pounds in water weight by taking natural diuretics. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Step 5
Perform as much high-intensity cardio as possible. One to three sessions of cardiovascular training, five or six days a week is a good starting point for rapid weight loss. Each session should be 30 to 60 minutes in duration, but no longer. Cardio exercise is cumulative, meaning that three 15-minute workouts are just as effective as one 45-minute session.
