Losing weight can be a challenge. Dieting and modifying your lifestyle, while everyone else around you is enjoying themselves, can be quite discouraging. To help yourself lose weight, along with your friends and co-workers, set up a weight-loss challenge at your job. A weight-loss challenge can help boost the morale of your co-workers, along with providing some incentive to lose weight.

Step 1

Seek the approval of your boss or the management department of your company for a weight-loss competition. Find out about company policy when it comes to contests within your company.

Step 2

Generate some interest about a weight-loss contest. Spread your idea by word of mouth to see how many people may be interested in participating in a weight-loss challenge.

Step 3

Decide on a start date -- consider starting after New Year's Day or early spring. Organize weigh-in dates such as once a week; decide on the duration of your contest -- approximately 12 weeks to allow participants to see results; and set an entry fee if you wish. Decide on prizes that will be awarded to individuals that place in the top three of the contest -- consider gift certificates to healthy restaurants, gym memberships or money.

Step 4

Post fliers on bulletin boards, on doors, in the restrooms, in elevators and in your office's break room. Include your phone number or email address for individuals to contact you with questions.

Step 5

Have a meeting to launch your weight-loss contest. If you wish, offer healthful snacks and drinks at your meeting -- such as fruits, veggies and water. At your meeting, explain the rules of the contest. Have participants sign a waiver committing to fees and participation in the three-month program. Record each participant's height and weight. You also can take before pictures to allow participants to see how they have changed by the end of the contest.

Step 6

Provide participants with a schedule of weigh-ins. Schedule a final weigh-in to reveal the winners.

Tips and Warnings

  • You also can organize a team weight-loss challenge, where the team with the largest combined weight loss wins.
