The Best Children's Magazines

Children's magazines are popular gifts for kids. No matter what a child's interest, a magazine can encourage curiosity and foster a love for reading. Some magazines are geared specifically toward boys or girls; and others focus on specific topics or subjects. Girls' Magazines

Amazon.com lists "American Girl Magazine" as the most popular girls' magazine. Written for girls ages 8 and up, "American Girl" features crafts, party ideas, games and advice for pre-teen girls. Other popular magazines for girls include "Discovery Girls" and "Girls Life Magazine."

Boys' Magazines

"Boys' Life Magazine" is one of the most popular magazines geared especially for boys. Affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, "Boys' Life" includes comics, stories about Boy Scouts, jokes and human interest articles. The magazine comes in two formats: the Cub Scout edition for boys age 11 and under, and the Boy Scout edition for boys age 12 and up. Wildlife Magazines

The National Wildlife Federation puts out "Ranger Rick," for children age 7 and older, and "Your Big Backyard" for children age 3 to 7. "Your Big Backyard" features crafts and activities designed to encourage young children to spend time in the great outdoors. "Ranger Rick" contains photographs and stories that are designed to help children appreciate their natural surroundings. Other wildlife magazines include "Animal Baby" and "Just For Fun," both also offered by the National Wildlife Federation, "Zoobooks" and "National Geographic Little Kids."

Cricket Magazines

Carus is the publisher of "Cricket Magazines." "Cricket" offers 14 quality children's magazines for various age groups. Some of these are "Babybug" for babies, "Ladybug" for young children, "Appleseeds" for kids age 6 to 9, "Cobblestone" for preteens, and "Cicada" for teenagers. The magazines are educational, and focus on a variety of literary, historical, science and exploration topics.
