Energy zappers come in all forms. They could be anything from the food you eat or don't eat, to lack of sleep or to people who steal your energy just by being negative. To have a high energy level all day you have to commit to taking better care of yourself. Your old habits of skipping meals only to binge later are going to compromise your energy levels, along with sleeping too little or too much. You have to focus on creating healthy habits and a positive mind-set in order to raise your energy to the level where it carries you effortlessly throughout your day.
Step 1
Go to bed earlier. When your circadian rhythms --- your internal clock --- are out of whack, low energy and sometimes depression are the outcomes. It's all too easy to get home from work, hustle through dinner and then slump on the couch for several hours of mindless channel surfing; or even worse, get hooked up to your computer for an all-night session of computer games. Rather than helping you wind down, these activities rev you up. Limit yourself to an hour or so of your favorite shows, record the rest and chill out before bed by reading, having a warm bath or meditating. Hit the sack around 10:00 p.m. and wake up refreshed and full of energy.
Step 2
Eat breakfast. When you awaken in the morning, you've just gone through a seven or eight hour fast. Your body needs fuel in order to maintain a high energy level all day. Most importantly, eat your breakfast at home. Stock up on fiber-rich cereals and oatmeal; artisan breads for your toast and a variety of berries. Eat some natural peanut butter for that protein boost and watch your energy levels soar.
Step 3
Stop worrying. Gnawing over little worries all day long is a habit you have to break. Focusing your attention on what you can't do takes a massive amount of energy away from figuring out what you can do. Set aside one period of time during the day to worry. You can make it as little as five minutes or as long as 30. During that time give free rein to every anxiety or challenge you're facing. Get it out of your system all at once and at the end of your worry-fest, take an additional five to ten minutes to write down in your notebook a series of actionable steps you can take to solve your dilemmas. A pro-active approach will suffuse you with positive energy.
Step 4
Focus on the positive. That is not to say that you should walk around grinning maniacally and spouting optimistic cliches from self-development programs. Everyone has problems and challenges, but to have a high energy level all day you must take time to acknowledge all the things that are going well. Stay away from people at work or in your social circle who gossip and spout negative untruths. These kinds of people are energy vampires and can bring you down. Associate with people who are upbeat and are committed to creating happy, successful lives. Their positivity will rub off and infuse you with energy.
