Vitamin World is a manufacturer of dietary supplements, including herbs, vitamins and minerals. The company, based in Long Island, also owns and runs a chain of more than 400 stores throughout the United States that sell its products. In addtion, Vitamin World offers its more than 1,000 products on its online store. CoQ10 is one of the supplements available.
Q-Sorb™ Coenzyme Q-10
Q-Sorb™ is the trademark Vitamin World created to distinguish its product from CoQ10 supplements manufactured by other companies. The supplement maker describes its coenzyme as identical to the same substance found in the body. Q-Sorb™ also seems to refer to the type of soft gel cap that holds the coenzyme. The company says the gel capsule allows "rapid release" and "superior absorption." Each pill contains 100 g CoQ10, a chemical compound that facilitates the production of the molecule adenosine triphosphate, a cell's strongest source of energy. CoQ10 is also an antioxidant, a substance that gets rid of free radicals in the body. Free radicals form naturally as a byproduct of digestion. They also appear after you are exposed to toxins in the environment. Left to occupy the body, free radicals can damage cells and cause serious illnesses. The University of Maryland Medical Center says some studies indicate CoQ10 supplements may prevent and treat heart disease and heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, as well as other medical conditions.
Rice Bran Oil
Rice bran oil contains gamma oryzanol and tocotrienols. Like CoQ10, gamma oryzanol and tocotrienols have antioxidant properties. According to Drugs.com, gamma oryzanol may lower cholesterol, prevent cancer and support skin health, but more research is necessary to prove it. Tocotrienol is a component of vitamin E. MedlinePlus says individuals take vitamin E to prevent heart problems, to treat diabetes-related conditions and to maintain the health of the nervous system, among other reasons.
Gelatin and Vegetable Glycerin
Gelatin and glycerin are used in the making of the gel caps that hold the nutrients. Gelatin comes from collagen, an animal protein. Collagen congeals when you mix it with boiling water and let it cool. Glycerin is a sweet gel derived from animal or plant fat.
Soy Lecithin
Soy lecithin is an emulsifier. It keeps the components inside the gel caps from separating. According to Chow, the little research that exists on soy lecithin also shows the substance has some potential for treating dementia and for lowering cholesterol.
Titanium Dioxide Color
Titanium dioxide color is an additive that gives the product its appearance. The substance, made of small titanium particles and used in cosmetics and other supplements, is linked to cancer, says the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety. Rats that inhaled titanium dioxide dust developed cancer of the respiratory tract.
