Caramelized banana is a sweet, soft and sticky delicacy that can be prepared as a snack or meal. It is important not to burn and blacken the sweet fruit. Fortunately, by grilling the banana with brown sugar, you can develop a nice coat of brown caramel as long as you apply high heat. Preparing caramelized banana on a grill trumps using a skillet not only because the preparation time is shorter but also because grilling gives the banana a faint, smoky flavor.

Step 1

Heat or set the grill to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Combine the butter and brown sugar in a dish.

Step 3

Peel the banana and cut the fruit into two pieces down its length.

Step 4

Hold the two halves together and cut down the halves crosswise to make four quarters.

Step 5

Place the banana pieces into the butter-and-sugar mixture. Coat the bananas with the mixture by carefully flipping them.

Step 6

Place the sugar-coated bananas onto the grill and cook them for five minutes or until a crispy brown coat of caramel forms.

Step 7

Turn the bananas over and grill them for another five minutes; they should be golden brown and caramelized all over.

Step 8

Remove the bananas from the heat and serve warm.

Tips and Warnings

  • Consider serving the bananas warm with ice cream or a sundae.
