B-12 and Adipex

Some people take B-12 supplements with Adipex for the purpose of losing weight. Although Adipex may successfully help some individuals lose weight, there is no scientific evidence that B-12 supplements aids in weight loss. Always talk to your doctor to determine which weight loss treatment is most appropriate for your situation.

B-12

B-12, a water-soluble vitamin, plays a role in a number of essential bodily functions. Although most people get enough of this vitamin through their diet, some people may benefit from B-12 supplements. While it is true that there is no scientific evidence that B-12 supplements cause weight loss, this vitamin supplement is unlikely to cause side effects, even when taken in large amounts. Because of this, some people choose to take the supplements to see if they notice any positive effects. Ask your doctor if you are interested in taking vitamin B-12 supplements.

Adipex

Adipex, the brand name of the medication phentermine, is a weight-loss medication that works by decreasing appetite. The medication is typically prescribed only for short periods of time, as it can be habit-forming. Side effects from the medication include constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, dry mouth and an unpleasant taste in the mouth. Although serious side effects are not common, they may occur. These include dizziness, restlessness, increased blood pressure, insomnia, shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling of the ankles or legs, tremors, difficulty exercising and heart palpitations. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these serious side effects occur.

Interactions

Taking a vitamin B-12 supplement while taking Adipex is unlikely to cause any negative interactions, according to the Drugs.com Interaction Checker. However, this does not necessarily mean no reaction will occur. Always report any unusual side effects to a doctor. In addition, Adipex and vitamin B-12 supplements may each interact negatively with other medications. Adipex is known to interact negatively with guanethidine, antidepressants, insulin, oral diabetes medications and blood pressure medications. B-12 supplements are known to interact negatively with chloramphenicol, proton pump inhibitors, H2 receptor antagonists and metformin.

Considerations

Although taking B-12 supplements and Adipex may help some individuals lose weight, always explore all of your options before deciding on a weight-loss treatment plan. Educating yourself about proper nutrition, making dietary changes and increasing the amount you exercise may be just as effective and less likely to cause unpleasant side effects. If you believe your extra weight is due to emotional issues, seeking behavioral counseling may also help. In addition, learn about other weight-loss medications, such as orlistat or diethylpropion, to determine if one of these would be more appropriate for your situation.
