Elson Haas, M.D., has written several bestselling books about nutrition. Additionally, Haas has an integrated health facility in California that provides nutritional information to clients. The Haas cleansing diet uses a detoxification approach to help you lose weight and cleanse your body. You should consult a medical professional, however, prior to attempting any cleanse including the Haas cleansing diet.
What is Detoxification?
The Haas diet uses detoxification to remove toxins from your body. The diet accomplishes this detoxification by transforming the toxins into substances your body can excrete through waste. Most of the toxins in your body come from the foods you eat. Processed foods, fats and chemicals such as pesticides, preservatives and free radicals damage your body over time, causing many health problems including weight gain.
Haas Detox For The Year
The Haas detox diet requires you to do at least seven cleanses throughout the year. According to Haas, you should perform a cleanse at set intervals throughout the year including in the spring, mid-spring, summer, late summer, autumn, mid-autumn and winter. Not all of the cleanses required by the Haas diet disallow foods. Additionally, the cleanses can last from three days to 21 days. According to Haas, the two primary cleanses required by this diet are the spring and autumn cleanses.
Spring
The spring cleanse lasts from seven to 21 days, and you should start this cleanse after March 10 but before April 15 every year. The spring cleanse is a modified juice fast that disallows most foods. During the cleanse you can eat fruits, vegetables, herbs and the juices of fruits and vegetables. After completing the spring cleanse, you also have to allow half as long as the cleanse period to transition back to regular foods. For example, if your spring cleanse lasted for 10 days, the recommended transition period is five days.
Autumn
The autumn cleanse lasts from seven to 10 days, and you should start this cleanse after September 11 but before October 5. This detox includes a colon cleanse with psyllium and pectin, enemas and colonics. You can also eat raw and cooked fruits and vegetables and drink juices during the autumn cleanse.
