The ProForm 745CS is a motorized in-home treadmill. It has a top speed of 10 mph and an automatic incline up to 10 percent. When you get your ProForm 745CS, you have to assemble the treadmill yourself. One of the parts is a static wire, also called a ground wire. This part helps reduce the chance that the treadmill will shock you.
The Part
The static wire is listed as a "ground wire" on the ProForm 745CS part list. It is part "61" and the machine comes with only one static wire. This small wire connects to the bottom of the treadmill with a ground wire screw. ProForm includes five screws in case you misplace them. The static wire connects on the frame at the back of the treadmill near the rear roller. It hangs below the 745CS and touches the ground.
Function
The static wire grounds the treadmill. It reduces static electricity build-up. The ground wire creates a path for static electricity to travel to the ground instead of through the treadmill or you. Static electricity can cause a painful shock to you and it can damage your treadmill motor. Attach the static wire to the treadmill frame with the included bolt. Make sure the wire hangs down and touches the ground or it will not work properly.
Replacement Part
Icon Health and Fitness, a large equipment manufacturer, makes the ProForm line of fitness equipment. If you lose the ground wire, you can order a replacement part through Icon Health and Fitness. Contact them via phone or order the part directly from the Icon Health and Fitness website. At the time of publication, the ground wire for the ProForm 745CS costs about $4.00 and a pack of five extra screws costs about $0.10.
Considerations
The static wire won't completely eliminate static shock. Several factors affect the amount of static electricity in the environment, including humidity, floor material and the type of shoes you wear. If you are getting shocked while using your ProForm 745CS, kneel at the back of the machine and look under the walking deck. Make sure the static wire is securely attached to the frame and that it touches the ground.
