Jenny Craig is one of the largest weight management companies in the world, according to the Jenny Craig website. Their weight loss program is comprehensive, helping clients learn how to control portions, improve their relationship with food and be more active. To aid in weight loss and portion control, Jenny Craig offers a complete line of food items. If you are concerned about soy in your diet, it is important to note that many of the prepackaged items in the Jenny Craig meal plan contain soy.

Weight Loss Program

The Jenny Craig weight loss program helps you lose weight by providing you with its calorie-controlled prepackaged meals. On the program, you eat three Jenny Craig meals, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus one Jenny Craig snack. In addition, you include your own fruits and vegetables to round out your meals. The diet is balanced and based on the 2005 U.S. dietary guidelines, providing 50 percent to 60 percent of calories from carbohydrates, 20 to 30 percent of calories from protein and 20 to 30 percent of calories from fat.

Jenny Craig offers a variety of menu options to satisfy your special dietary needs. The company offers a pre-planned, personalized menu where you get to create your own menu from 80 different food items and a meatless menu option. Menu items include items such as blueberry pancakes with veggie sausage, beef and cheese sliders, chicken teriyaki, chicken pesto pasta, lemon cooler cookies and strawberry cakes. Many of these items come to you frozen. Because these are pre-made and include a variety of ingredients, many contain some amount of soy.

Avoiding Soy

You may want to avoid soy if you have an allergy or if you are taking medication for a hypothyroid condition. Soy allergy is one of the more common food allergens, most often found in infants and children. Allergic reactions to soy usually include itching, swelling and difficulty breathing, and in some cases can lead to anaphylaxis. Soy is also thought to interfere with your body's ability to absorb the medication used to treat hypothyroid, and your doctor may have suggested you avoid soy to prevent any interactions.

Considerations

If you need to avoid soy, Jenny Craig prepackaged foods may not be the best choice for you. In fact, Jenny Craig says it does not enroll individuals in the program who have an allergy to soy because it is found in so many of the foods. If you're trying to lose weight and avoid soy, following a diet program that lets you choose and prepare your own foods may be a better option.
