David Beckham is a famous English international soccer player who has played for such prestigious clubs as Manchester United in England, Real Madrid in Spain and A.C. Milan in Italy. Aside from his many records and accomplishments, Beckham is most known for his amazing free kicks. By striking the ball in a precise manner, he is able to put a curve on his shot that gives the illusion that the ball will miss the goal, when, in actuality, it curves just inside the bar.
Step 1
Place your supporting foot directly to the left or right of the ball. For example, if you shoot with your right foot, your left foot will be your supporting foot; place it directly to the left of the ball so that the center of the ball is in line with the middle of the curve of your left foot.
Step 2
Take three steps back and one step to the side. The side step should be in the same direction as your supporting foot. Look at the goal and visualize where you want to place the ball.
Step 3
Run towards the ball, planting your supporting foot exactly where you placed it before stepping back. Keep a slight bend in the knee of your supporting leg.
Step 4
Swing your shooting foot down towards the ball. Make sure to strike the ball with the inside front part of your foot. This area should be between the curve of your foot and the big toe.
Step 5
Strike the ball on the lower left or right side. For example, if you shoot with your right foot, you should strike the ball in the lower right side.
Step 6
Follow through with your foot. To achieve the curve, your foot should continue forward and slightly around toward the front side of the ball. This will put a spin on the ball, curving it like Beckham's shooting style.
Tips and Warnings
- Practice the technique before shooting with power. The more power in your shot, the more the ball will curve through the air.
