Weight loss is one possible effect of the Jenny Craig diet, although a few others are not as beneficial. The program consists of purchasing from the company special meals and snacks which you eat until your plan is complete. The goal is to learn healthy, moderate eating habits while you follow the plan, although that is not always the case once you're left on your own. Talk to a doctor before starting a diet.
Hunger
Moderation and low-calorie content are keys to the Jenny Craig diet's success, but they are also factors that can leave you hungry. The basic diet plan consists of three Jenny Craig meals and one Jenny Craig snack each day, with your calorie level determined by your gender, age, height, current weight and activity level. Although the Jenny Craig website notes the lowest calorie level is 1,200 per day, the lowest recommended by the Dietary Guidelines, the Every Diet website says the diet still leaves many dieters experiencing hunger.
Frozen Meals and Snacks
Because Jenny Craig relies solely on prepackaged and frozen meals from the company, the plan might not bode well for dieters who do not enjoy subsisting on frozen meals. The program does allow you to eat fresh fruit, vegetables, heart-healthy fats and reduced-fat milk in addition to the three Jenny Craig meals and one snack each day, but freshly prepared meals are not part of the agenda.
High Cost
The cost of the plan is also high, according to Every Diet, although Jenny Craig does not offer pricing on its site. The length of the program depends on how much weight you want to lose, but the longer you remain on the plan, the more expensive it will become. The plan does offer a "risk-free" three-day sample plan that costs $39.99 as of press time and includes a free walnut brownie, but no money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the plan once you purchase it.
Lack of Special Dietary Concerns
The Jenny Craig diet offers a wide variety of snacks and meals, ranging from chicken fajitas to fish and chips, but Every Diet reports it does not take certain special diet needs into account. Special menus that are teen-friendly, senior-friendly and friendly for type 2 diabetics exist, but others are left out. Jenny Craig offers a meatless menu, but the entrees are not vegan-friendly since they may still contain egg and dairy products. No special menu is available for those with food allergies.
