Celebrities frequently engage in quick weight-loss diet plans to lose weight for upcoming roles or events. Juice diets are increasingly common as a method of detoxing the body and losing weight quickly. Juice diets typically involve drinking only juices from fresh produce, water and herbal teas for a short-term period that may range from one to seven days. Caution is advised, however, as juice diets may cause health problems from low calorie or nutrient intakes. Consult with a physician prior to initiating any new dietary regimen.
Juice Diets
Juice diets, also known as liquid diets, consist of drinking juices for every meal in place of foods. These detox diets are meant to cleanse the body of accumulated toxins and waste products that can contribute to weight gain. According to the Mayo Clinic, however, there is a lack of scientific evidence supporting the benefits of detox diets. Furthermore, resulting weight loss is typically due to water weight from low calorie intake and food group restrictions. Juice fasting may be appropriate under medical supervision but should not be considered for long-term weight loss.
Original Celebrity Juice Diet
The Original Celebrity Juice Diet is a 2-day diet plan whose proponents claim that it will improve your energy and help you drop pounds safely due to its short duration. This diet plan uses a Juice Diet drink product that provides essential minerals and vitamins to the body for less calories and easier digestion than eating real foods. The plan requires the consumption of four cups of juice over a 16-hour period for two consecutive days. Drinking up to 12 cups of water daily is also recommended.
Benefits of Produce
Juicing fresh fruits and vegetables provides a quick and convenient alternative to eating a large variety of fruits and vegetables daily. Most fruits and vegetables are low in calories, have little to no fat and no added refined sugars. They contain essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals needed for normal body functions, hormonal balance and skin health. Furthermore, produce is also rich in antioxidants, which provide some protection against diseases and certain cancers. Produce eaten in its whole form can be harder to digest and may lead to stomach troubles such as gas, bloating and constipation. Juicing enables dieters to consume produce in liquid form for easier digestion and less calories.
Well-Balanced Diet
While juicing may enable weight loss for the short term, it is not a healthy long-term method. Although rich in essential vitamins and minerals, juices lack other essential nutrients including protein and fat. Protein is needed for the growth, maintenance and repair of muscle and body tissues. Fat is also needed for normal body functions and the absorption of vitamins. Furthermore, protein and fat increase satiety which prevents hunger cravings that lead to over-eating and possible weight gain. Eating a well-balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, whole-grains and healthy fats combined with regular exercise is a healthier approach to weight loss.
