BSN is a well-known nutritional supplement company and its logo can be seen at ultimate fighting and bodybuilding venues. One of its better known products is the protein Syntha-6. It has won consumer-poll awards for being the best tasting ready-to-drink protein and also took second place in best tasting protein powder. BSN's other products have won a variety of awards as well, according to a tally on the company website.
Calorie Content
One rounded scoop of Syntha-6 contains 200 calories. Twenty-seven percent of the total calories come from fat, 28 percent come from carbohydrates and 45 percent are from protein. This product contains less than 30 percent of calories from fat, making it a heart healthy option.
Fat Content
Per serving, Syntha-6 contains 6 g of fat with 2 g of that coming from saturated fat. The sources of fat in this product include sunflower oil, lecithin and medium chain triglycerides, or MCT. MCT is a fat source that is easy to digest and is readily used by your body as a energy source.
Carbohydrate Content
Per serving, Syntha-6 provides about 14 g to 15 g of carbohydrates, depending on the flavor. About 5 g of the carbohydrates are fiber and only 2 g of the total carbohydrates come from sugar. The sources of the carbohydrates in this product are non-fat dry milk, corn syrup solids, cocoa powder and polydextrose. This is a combination of carbohydrates that should not cause dramatic increases in blood sugar.
Protein Content
Per serving, Syntha-6 contains 22 g of protein from six different sources. Syntha-6 contains the following proteins: whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, calcium caseinate, micellar casein, milk protein isolate, and egg albumin. This combination provides a mix of faster digesting proteins, like whey, with slower digesting proteins, like casein. This mixture will provide users with a fast, then steady flow of amino acids to aid in tissue repair and recovery.
Vitamin and Mineral Content
Syntha- 6 does not provide much in the category of vitamins and minerals. Syntha-6 provides 10 percent of the daily value for calcium, 1 percent of the daily value for iron, 10 percent of the daily value for phosphorus and 4 percent of the daily value for magnesium. The daily value is a nutrient recommendation system created by the FDA that should meet the needs of most healthy individuals.
