My Sole F63 Treadmill Takes a While to Pick Up Speed

The Sole F63 is a residential, foldaway treadmill. It has a 2.5 hp motor that supports speeds up to 12 mph. Unfortunately, if you notice that your F63 takes a while to pick up speed, there is no definitive solution. You will have to troubleshoot the cause of the problem and then decide if you can fix it or if you need to contact the manufacturer.

Power Source

If the treadmill takes a while to pick up speed and the resulting speed seems slower than what the F63 displays on the console, you may have a problem with your power source. Sole Fitness cautions against using an extension cord to power the F63 treadmill. If you have to use an extension cord, use as short a cord as possible and select one that is heavy-duty, 16-gauge minimum. The Sole F63 requires an outlet with 110-volt AC current. Low household voltage can also cause the treadmill to have problems with speed. Have an electrician check your outlet.

Belt Adjustment

A tight or off-center walking belt can also cause speed problems. The belt may hesitate, drag or slip. Sole Fitness notes that belt tension is important for joggers and runners; proper tension provides a smooth, steady running surface. If the belt slips, tighten it; if the belt drags, loosen it. Use a 6mm Allen wrench to adjust the rear roller bolts at the back-end of the treadmill. Run the belt and observe it from the back of the treadmill. If the belt tracks to one side, adjust the bolts to properly center it.

Belt Lubrication

The Sole F63 running deck requires regular lubrication. A dry deck can cause increased friction and drag between the belt and deck, which keeps the belt from accelerating properly. Sole Fitness recommends lubricating the running belt every 180 hours of use. Select a Sole-approved, silicon-based lubricant. Do not use paraffin wax on your F63 treadmill.
If you do not regularly lubricate the deck, the friction and drag places increased stress on the drive motor, drive belt and electronic motor control board. This stress may cause these parts to fail.

Other Causes

Several other conditions can cause the running belt on your F63 treadmill to not accelerate properly. An electronic short in the motor can cause havoc on the speed controls. The problem can also originate from the electronic motor control board. The console panel sends a signal to the electronic board for it to set the proper speed. A problem with the signal generator in the console or the signal sensor on the electronic board can cause erratic speeds.
