Similiar to the waist-to-hip ratio, you can obtain your weight-to-waist ratio with a relatively simple calculation. Although not a common method for indicating health risks associated with obesity, knowing your weight-to-waist ratio can help you keep track of progress in your weight-loss efforts.
Weight-to-Waist Ratio
Step 1
Measure your scale weight first thing in the morning before you've had breakfast or your morning coffee. Use the restroom first.
Step 2
Using a measuring tape, measure the circumference of your waist at its smallest point. Avoid pulling the measuring tape too tight, as this will give an inaccurate measurement.
Step 3
Use your calculator to divide your scale weight by your waist measurement. The result is your weight-to-waist ratio.
Tips and Warnings
- Try various body composition assessments such as the body mass index and body fat percentage measurements for a better look at your overall health; your doctor can explain these to you, help with calculation and suggest lifestyle changes that can help with weight loss and your health in general.
