Vitamins are called predigested when the vitamin product comes in a liquid medium. With predigested vitamins, the product manufacturer has broken down the actual vitamin into the liquid medium. Manufacturers claim that your body has an easier time absorbing predigested, liquid vitamins. Clinical studies have not, however, confirmed that predigested, liquid vitamins have more health benefits than other forms of vitamin supplements. As with any health supplement, you should speak with your doctor prior to talking a predigested vitamin product.
Production
The benefits of any predigested vitamin supplement will depend on the specific vitamins found in the supplement and how the manufacturer produced the predigested vitamin product. Many vitamin supplements contain vitamin chemicals produced in laboratories such as fully synthetic vitamin E. If the vitamin supplement is not a natural product, it becomes irrelevant whether the supplement comes in predigested liquid or pill form.
Absorbability
According to "Earl Mindell's New Vitamin Bible," your body does have an easier time absorbing predigested liquid vitamins. However, even with this increased absorption, clinical evidence has not shown that the vitamins' nutrients can survive the acidity of your stomach. Your stomach may destroy most of the vitamins found in the predigested vitamin supplement, preventing the vitamin from entering your small intestine.
Claims of Liquid Vitamins
Vitamin supplements can support your overall health. However, some of the claims made by predigested liquid vitamin manufacturers are not entirely accurate. According to "The Real Vitamin and Mineral Book," up to 98 percent of liquid vitamins will not absorb properly into your system because of your stomach acid. Additionally, no vitamin product can cure diseases. Vitamins can, however, help your body to maintain optimal health and help to prevent some medical conditions.
Breakdown of Liquid Vitamins
Chemically produced predigested liquid vitamins have a tendency to break down once exposed to air. Further, if the manufacturing process is not well-controlled, the vitamins can become damaged during the manufacturing process. The best predigested vitamin sources use high-quality, dense whole-food nutrients to produce the vitamin supplements.
