Most celebrities work hard all year round to stay slender, but when an important photo shoot or special event is approaching, crash diets are a popular way for stars to shed the extra pounds and look their best. Strict diets like these are fine on occasion, but don't make a habit of cutting out food groups for an extended period of time.
Load Up on Produce
According to celebrity wellness coach and nutrition expert Jackie Keller, eating more produce is a great way to stay full while cutting calories. She recommends her Hollywood clients eat three servings of fruit and five servings of vegetables every day, focusing on high-fiber veggies and fruits with edible peels or seeds, including leafy greens, broccoli, apples, pears, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. Keller says that no fruits or vegetables are off-limits, but high-fat choices like avocado should be limited to one or two servings per week.
Cut Out Processed Foods
Celebrity trainer Teddy Bass urges his clients to slim down by avoiding refined carbs like white bread, crackers, pasta, rice and cookies, since their high sugar content means the body burns sugar rather than stored fat. Jackie Keller recommends swapping processed foods like these for fiber-rich whole grains like brown or wild rice, 100 percent whole grain pasta and sprouted wheat, whole wheat or seeded rye bread; these foods will help you reach the 20 to 25 daily grams of fiber she suggests for weight-loss.
Beat Bloating
Foods and beverages that cause gas can make you look puffy, so celebrities usually cut out bloat-inducing foods several days before a big event. Avoid produce like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, pears, apples, prunes and Brussels sprouts, as well as diet drinks, carbonated drinks and anything made with artificial sweeteners. Instead, fill up on water-rich foods like celery, lettuce, cucumbers, grapes, oranges and watermelon, and drink plenty of water.
Eat and Drink Often
When you're trying to slim down, don't let yourself get too hungry. Eating every three hours will keep you satisfied, and avoid those hunger pangs that cause you to reach for the nearest junk food. Jackie Keller also recommends drinking at least 64 oz. of water every day, in order to stay hydrated and keep your metabolic processes running smoothly.
