Calcium comes in multiple forms and is one of our most important nutrients. We get calcium from various dietary sources, such as dairy, cereal and even vegetables. Calcium phosphate is the main form of calcium found in cow's milk. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, foods such as soy products, enriched juices, cheese and artichoke are good sources of calcium phosphate. Calcium phosphate forms hydroxyapatite, a mineral that makes up most of the substance in our bones as well as our teeth.

Step 1

Identify and write down the exact name of the product. Given the enormous variety of choices available to you at the supermarket, even two products that seem similar may have different nutrient content. For example, 2 percent milk from two different farms may be fortified with different nutrients. For that reason, you must be very exact with the product for which you calculate calcium phosphate content.

Step 2

Calculate the quantity of product. For most products, weight can be the best measurement. For liquids, it may be the volume in gallons or liters. For other products that are prepackaged, the quantity may just be a single package. The measurement is crucial to calculating the amount of calcium phosphate in the product.

Step 3

Look up the product in one of the standard online nutrient calculators. The USDA provides a nutrient calculator on its website that can be used to calculate the calcium phosphate in a product. Another option is the Sodexo Nutrient Calculator, which is also a free online calculator that can quantify multiple different nutrients in a given food, as well as the percentage of daily recommended intake.
