Most people opt for over-the-counter treatments when they have an acne breakout or just a pimple or two. However, if these are ineffective or you wish to take a more natural approach, the combination of honey and cinnamon may be another way to treat pimples and get your skin clear once again.

About Pimples

Pimples can be caused by a variety of reasons. According to AcneNet, hormones, excess oil production and the accumulation of dead skin cells, which can clog your pores and result in pimples. If bacteria is also present, the pimple can become a cyst and appear red and inflamed.

Cinnamon is also an antibacterial agent, meaning it helps prevent the growth of bacteria. According to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, cinnamon possesses anti-inflammatory properties, Thus, it could reduce the inflammation associated with acne.

Considerations

Even though honey and cinnamon are natural products and generally safe for consumption, cinnamon may cause allergies, according to Phadia. In fact, cinnamon is an under-diagnosed source of allergies and could cause skin irritation and inflammation if you're sensitive to it. Always test honey and cinnamon on a small patch of skin before applying it to your entire face.
