5 Things You Need to Know About Sun Chlorella

1. A Small Green Thing

A form of freshwater green algae, sun chlorella was first discovered in the 19th century, at which time it was given the name chlorella. The terms "chloros", which means green in Greek, and "ella", which means small thing, were combined to describe this single-celled plant that we now know has existed for more than 2 billion years. The oxygen now present on earth was generated by sunshine and algae like sun chlorella. Additionally, algae contains some of the essential and fundamental nutrients needed to support life.

2. Edible Green Superfood

Sun chlorella, also known as Chlorella pyrenoidosa, is one of only fifteen forms of edible algae and is considered to be one of the most nutritionally rich of those fifteen species. Because algae has a photosynthesis ability several times greater than other plant forms, it produces far more protein and essential amino acids as well. Sun chlorella has about 38 times more protein than beans and 55 times more than rice.

3. A Unique Growth Factor

Chlorella growth factor (CGF) is a phytonutrient unique to chlorella. A nucleotide-peptide complex found in the nucleus of all chlorella cells, CGF is thought to help maintain cell health and may possible reduce the effects of aging, reduce tumor growth and support the division, growth and production of cells in general. While further study needs to be done to determine the health benefits of CGF, initial studies show promising results.

4. An Incredible Source of Vitamins and Minerals

It is difficult to find another single substance that offers the number of nutrients that are found in sun chlorella. Some of the vitamins and minerals in sun chlorella include biotin, calcium, chlorophyll, choline, copper, dietary fiber, folic acid, inositol, iodine, iron, lipoic acid, lutein, magnesium, niacin, nucleic acids, omega fatty acids, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, protein, pro-vitamin A (beta-carotene), pyridoxine (B6), riboflavin (B2), thiamine (B1), vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin K and zinc.

5. A Little Green to Purify the Body

Sun chlorella is thought to help purify the body by binding with damaging chemicals such as food additives, preservatives, fertilizers, pesticides and other contaminants. It is thought that these chemicals will be absorbed by sun chlorella before it is absorbed by your body, allowing your body to naturally eliminate toxins in the urine and stools. Additionally, one serving of sun chlorella is equal to a serving of fresh green vegetables. Always read the manufacturer's instructions for dosage information, as serving amounts will depend on brand.
