Nutri Prevent is a softgel supplement by Naka Herbs and Vitamins currently based out of Toronto, Ontario. Dosing is recommended by Naka at one softgel, twice a day. The idea of Nutri Prevent is to provide the body with a high dose of antioxidants to help maintain health although these claims have not been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Health Benefits

Nutri Prevent is geared towards those concerned about cardiovascular disease, immune function, aging, blood glucose levels, Parkinson's disease and a lack of energy. Naka lists Nutri Prevent benefits on a gold, silver and bronze rating system that include possible anti-aging, athletic performance, detoxification, memory, arthritis and weight management improvements. It is also recommended for those taking statin drugs which are used to lower cholesterol. (ref 1)

Active Ingredients

Nutri Prevent contains mega doses of antioxidants and certain B vitamins. Each Nutri Prevent softgel contains 100 mg, of Coenzyme Q10, 100 mg, or resveratrol, 200 mg, of Alpha Lipoic Acid, 150 mg, of Quercetin, plus the following B vitamins; 10 mg, of riboflavin, 50 mg, of niacin in niacinamide and nicotinamide form and 500 mcg, of B-12. If taking the recommended two softgels per day, these numbers would need to be doubled. The Recommended Dietary Allowance, or RDI, for adults is 1.1 to 1.3 mg of riboflavin, 14 to 16 mg of niacin and 2.4 mcg of B-12 per day. A DRI has not been set for the antioxidants: Coenzyme Q10, resveratrol, Quercetin and Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Inactive Ingredients

Other ingredients include preservatives, emulsifiers and binding agents that help form the softgel capsule, such as soybean oil, lecithin, white beeswax, and gelatin. There are no fish, egg, wheat-based or artificial ingredients listed.

Warnings

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking blood pressure medication or blood thinners, you definitely should not take this supplement. However, everyone should first consult with a physician before taking this product. Some recent medical studies suggest that high doses of antioxidants may actually harm health instead of improving health. It may be better to receive antioxidants from food sources such as whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables rather than supplements.
