Like adults, babies can get sore muscles. There are ways of relieving your baby's sore muscles, but you must be gentle and remember that your baby's muscles and skin are far more sensitive than yours. Your options for soothing a sore baby include massage, warm baths and warm compresses. Discuss your baby's condition with your doctor before trying at-home remedies.

Step 1

Bathe your baby. Use warm water; add baby bubble bath if desired. Make sure the water is lukewarm by submerging your elbow to check the temperature.

Step 2

Place your baby in the warm water and gently sprinkle the water over your baby's body. If your baby cannot sit up, gently support his head and sprinkle the water from the chest downward. Dry him with a soft, dry towel when you are done.

Step 3

Massage your baby to soothe her sore muscles. Remove her clothes first; the best time to massage your baby is after a bath, the United Kingdom's National Health Service advises on its website. The BabyCentre website recommends massage the legs and arms in a gentle, milking-like motion, gently pulling fingers and toes until your fingers come off, and, on the check, back and soles of the feet, gently tracing your hands in a circular motion.

Step 4

Use a warm compress to soothe your baby's muscles. Get a clean washcloth and soak it in lukewarm water.

Step 5

Wipe the warm washcloth over your baby's body, concentrating on the muscles that seem to sore. Dry your baby with a soft towel after you have finished.

Step 6

Wrap your baby in a soft, warm blanket and gently rock her. This will soothe your baby and make her relax as well as soothe her aching muscles.

Things You'll Need

  • Warm water
  • Baby bubble bath, optional
