Sweating is your body's natural response to exposure to extreme heat, and sweating can also occur as a symptom of a medical illness. However, some people sweat more than what is considered typical and experience an odor, commonly in the underarms. In addition to managing your daily hygiene, making some adjustments in your diet can help to prevent underarm odor.

Onions

Foods that carry a strong aroma have a tendency to permeate the glands. After eating these foods, if you sweat you may notice an odor similar to that of the food in your underarm area. An onion is a food that has a strong flavor and scent. If you find that onions are contributing to your body odor, forego fresh onions. Try cooked onions or onion powder, as their scent is more subtle but still let you enjoy the onion flavor.

Garlic

Garlic carries a robust scent in a small package. People have a tendency to use more fresh garlic than is necessary in many recipes. Follow the recommended measurement for a recipe. If you notice that garlic is contributing to your body odor, reduce the amount you use or opt for garlic powder.

Spicy Foods & Caffeinated Beverages

Some people find that spicy foods or caffeinated beverages cause them to sweat. If you are not able to shower right away after consuming these foods, an odor could develop. Opt for a less spicy versions of foods and eliminate caffeinated beverages from your diet if these are an issue for you.

Water

Water is a natural cleanser for your body. In addition to cleansing the inside of the body through digestion, water nourishes your glands and skin. The more water you drink, the more it dilutes the effects of foods such as garlic or onions that have a tendency to cause underarm odor.

Vitamin K

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin K may be used to ward off body odor. Vitamin K is stored in the body's tissues, so it serves as a buffer for various odors. Dark green vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, kale and broccoli are excellent sources of vitamin K.
