Tailbone protection for snowboarding is designed to help provide adequate padding when you fall on your backside. Snowboarders, especially beginners, fall often, so protection is essential to help prevent fractures and other serious injuries. There are a variety of ways to protect your tailbone.
Tailsaver
The Tailsaver is a tailbone protector consisting of EVA 30 foam, which is designed to absorb high levels of impact while maintaining flexibility levels. The pad slides directly and securely behind your ski pants, tucking in between your buttocks and lower back. Clips are latched onto the back of the pants to make the Tailsaver stay in place while snowboarding. Because of its flexible foam design, the Tailsaver allows for extensive mobility while snowboarding or skiing.
Demon Flex Force Pro
The Demon Flex Force Pro is a padded short worn under your snowboarding pants to reduce impact to your tailbone and buttocks. The shorts have built-in foam padding on the sides as well as across the entire rear end for maximum protection. Aside from the padding, the shorts themselves are composed of a thin Lycra/spandex combination. They run in sizes small to extra large and can be purchased online only.
Azzpadz
Azzpadz is an anatomically correct tailbone protection harness specifically designed to reduce the impact of falls while snowboarding. The harness fits snugly across your waist and thighs, locking in with Velcro to tailor the fit to your body shape. The Azzpadz provides coverage only on your rear end, making it not as all-encompassing as the Demon Flex Force Pro. The Azzpadz is worn under your ski pants but over your underwear.
Butt Gear
Butt Gear is a tailbone-protection device created by Tucker. Butt Gear is placed directly on top of snowboarding pants and can be tightened using a Velcro belt around the waist. The pads surround the entire buttocks region, extending down to the upper portion of your hamstrings.
