What Is Vitamin B-50 Good for?

Vitamin B-50 is a multivitamin supplement that provides all eight of the B-complex vitamins. Your body requires the B-complex vitamins for digestion, the support of your nervous system, energy and healthy skin, hair and nails. Since most of the B vitamins are water-soluble, your body will eliminate any excess of these vitamins through waste. Vitamin B-12 is the only B vitamin your body will store. You can obtain your required B-complex vitamins from either food sources or supplementation. As with any supplement, speak with a medical professional prior to taking vitamin B-50.

Digestion

B vitamins help your body to break down foods and turn the nutrients you consume such as fats and carbohydrates into energy. According to "Vitamins and Minerals Demystified," by eating the right proportion of protein, fats and carbohydrate and obtaining the required B-complex vitamins, you can improve your overall health and energy levels. When your body uses the foods you consume efficiently, your digestive system and metabolism become more effective at eliminating waste and burning fat.

Nervous System

Your nervous system, which includes your brain, controls many of your body's functions. A deficiency in the B-complex vitamins can affect neurotransmitter function and cause several nervous system disorders. Some of the associated symptoms include depression, sleep deprivation, irritability, lack of energy and weight fluctuations. Additionally, according to "User's Guide to the B-Complex Vitamins," vitamin B supplementation may increase the effectiveness of some antidepressant medications. However, further studies are required to confirm the benefits of combining B-complex vitamin supplementation with antidepressants.

Healthy Skin, Hair and Nails

Your body requires B-complex vitamins for proper RNA and DNA synthesis and cell reproduction. "User's Guide to the B-Complex Vitamins" states that deficiencies in the B vitamins can contribute to acne, dry skin, wrinkles, rashes, splitting nails and hair loss. Biotin is a B vitamin your body uses to synthesize good cholesterol. Additionally, biotin supplementation can treat many of the skin conditions associated with B vitamin deficiencies. Many hair and skin products contain biotin as an active ingredient.

Dosage and Vitamin

According to "Vitamins and Minerals Demystified," the number 50 in vitamin B-50 denotes the amount of most B vitamins available in the supplement. Generally, B-50 supplements contain 50 mg of every B vitamin except folic acid, biotin and B-12. B-50 supplements generally contain 400 mg of folic acid and 50 mcg each of biotin and B-12. The vitamins present in the B-50 supplement include vitamin B-1 or thiamine, vitamin B-2 or riboflavin, vitamin B-3 or niacin, vitamin B-5 or pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6 or pyridoxine, vitamin B-9 or folic acid, vitamin B-7 or biotin and vitamin B-12 or cobalamin.
