Winsor Pilates, the brainchild of Pilates guru Mari Winsor, is often seen on late-night infomercials claiming to change your body. Unfortunately, some of the results may be exaggerated, so you become frustrated when you don't gain a dancer-sleek body shortly after beginning the program. By managing your expectations of what the program can and can't do, you'll know how to accelerate your results and get the most from your Winsor Pilates program.
Winsor Pilates Program
The type of program that you follow for Winsor Pilates will have a bearing on your actual results and the length of time it takes to achieve them. Winsor offers an entire library of Winsor Pilates DVDs, though as of time of publication only the Sculpting Circle system was available for direct purchase from Winsor Pilates. The Sculpting Circle DVDs include the 20 Minute Winsor Pilates Sculpting Circle Workout, the 10 Minute Sculpting Blast and the Accelerated Fat Burning Workout. According to the Winsor Pilates website, you need to practice Pilates for only 20 minutes, three times per week to see results.
Pilates as a Practice
Before dismissing Winsor Pilates as another gimmicky weight loss fan, consider the practice of Pilates as a whole. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1960s, Pilates teaches the practice of controlled movements and proper breathing during exercise to reap more benefits from the workout. It's a viable form of exercise, but must be practiced properly and regularly to see any type of results.
Pilates Benefits
The effectiveness of Winsor Pilates depends on the results you expect to see. The Winsor Pilates infomercials include testimonials from users who experienced drastic weight loss transformations. Unfortunately, these may be exaggerated or gloss over undisclosed information such as diet and other forms of exercise. A 2007 study published in the "Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies" found that while practicing general Pilates was successful in lower back and abdominal strength and flexibility, it did not produce weight loss or alter body mass index in otherwise sedentary females. Since Winsor Pilates is simply a compilation of widely known Pilates exercises, it can be hypothesized that your results will be similar: an increase in strength and flexibility and no real change in overall weight.
Results
Try Winsor Pilates, using the Winsor Pilates system of 20 minutes, three times per week for at least six weeks to several months to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the program. The time it takes for you to see results will vary depending on results you hope to see, the other physical activity you do and your diet. For instance, the most devoted Winsor Pilates participant in the world may have trouble seeing results if indulging in a high-fat diet. Winsor Pilates should not be seen as a standalone miracle program, but a healthy and beneficial addition to a healthy diet and daily exercise.
