Cell-Tech is a series of muscle building supplements marketed by MuscleTech, a manufacturer of dietary supplements for athletes and bodybuilders. Ingredients in Cell-Tech are designed to drive water and nutrients into your muscles. Drawing water and nutrients in temporarily enlarges your muscles, and this may support increased muscle growth during weight training.

Supplement Facts

The primary ingredients in Cell-Tech are creatine, amino acids, alpha-lipoic acid, simple carbohydrates and electrolytes. Cell-Tech is sold as a powder; one scoop is mixed with 12 oz. of water to form a drink. Cell-Tech is designed to be consumed immediately after your workout or in the morning on non-workout days. At the time of publication Cell-Tech is available in fruit punch, orange, grape, lemon-lime and blue raspberry flavors.

Purported Benefits

The MuscleTech website states that Cell-Tech increases muscle growth and strength. The amount of nutrients absorbed by your muscles increases after energy is depleted during a workout and when high levels of insulin are present. Post-workout nutrition is important. Cell-Tech supplies amino acids -- the building blocks of protein -- and carbohydrates, which are the two most important nutrients for muscle recovery. It also stimulates your muscles to absorb them.

Evidence

Though Cell-Tech fulfills the requirements of post-workout nutrition, it is unclear whether it is a superior alternative to other sources of nutrients, such as whole food or protein shake. The ingredients in Cell-Tech (creatine, amino acids, carbohydrates and electrolytes) carry water into your muscles, increasing their size. However, much of this size does not translate into persistent muscle growth.

Creatine and alpha-lipoic acids are naturally produced by your body. Creatine provides a quick energy source for muscles during intense physical activity. Alpha-lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that may increase insulin sensitivity, increasing nutrient absorption by your muscles. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, no research has demonstrated that supplemental creatine or alpha-lipoic acid can persistently elevate these levels in healthy people.

Safety

Cell-Tech is processed in a facility that also processes milk and soy products, so people with allergies should avoid using it. Additionally, supplements containing large amount of creatine raise the risk of dehydration, so be sure to consume water in excess while taking Cell-Tech. Do not take Cell-Tech without your doctor's permission if you are currently under medical care, especially for heart or kidney disease.
