Nitroflex Exercises

The Nitroflex is a home gym made by Fitness Quest. It creates exercise resistance through nitrogen-charged cylinders. Fitness Quest discontinued the Nitroflex gym and replaced it with another gym called the Bio Force. You can do more than 40 exercises on the Nitroflex, but the design limits you to movements in the vertical plane.

Nitroflex

The Nitroflex has a white metal frame with a black, flat bench. The machine consists of the bench, a vertical bar with the nitrogen cylinders and lever arms that hold a floating barbell. The lever arms are horizontal to the floor and suspend the floating barbell above the weight bench.
The nitrogen-charged cylinders provide the exercise resistance. The faster and harder you press or pull the bar, the more resistance you create.

Upper-Body Exercises

The horizontal lever arms attach to the vertical upright, which contains the nitrogen cylinders. The way the lever attaches to the upright only allows for an up-or-down movement of the bar. Press up on the floating barbell or pull down on the floating barbell. You cannot move it side to side or pull it in and out.
To work your shoulders, sit on the weight bench and do overhead presses. To work your chest and triceps, lie on your back on the bench and do chest presses. Sit upright and take a wide, overhand grip on the bar to do lat pull-downs that work your back and biceps.

Lower-Body Exercises

You can do several lower-body compound exercises on the Nitroflex home gym. Straddle the bench and hold the barbell at shoulder height. From this position, you can do squats and calf raises. Squats work your hamstrings, quadriceps and gluteus muscles. Calf raises target your calf muscles. Straddle the bench and stand over the floating barbell to do deadlifts. This multi-joint exercise works your lower back and thighs.

Limitations

Although you can do exercises for all the major muscles with the Nitrogen home gym, the design of the machine limits your exercise options. Because the barbell only moves up and down, you cannot target a muscle group from more than one angle. For example, you can do lat pull-downs, but you cannot do any type of row exercise on the Nitrogen gym. Any exercise with an arc movement pattern is difficult to do on this machine. This includes biceps curls, pullovers, leg curls and leg extensions.
