The Pilates Power Gym is home exercise equipment that resembles a classic Pilates reformer. The system of pulleys and springs allows you to perform a full range of Pilates exercises to help you reach your fitness and weight-loss goals. For many users of the Pilates Power Gym, there is a specific focus to the number of calories burned during a workout.

Exercises

The Pilates Power Gym allows you to perform 15 different Pilates exercises without making significant changes to the machine, the manufacturer's website notes. As a result, you can switch between the exercises in seconds, keeping your heart rate elevated to burn additional calories. Along with burning extra calories, the full-body workout and elevated heart rate help to tone and shape your body.

Intensity

Workout intensity is an important factor in how many calories you burn while using the Pilates Power Gym. As the intensity increases, so does calories burn. For example, a 160-lb. person performing a high-intensity workout on the Pilates Power Gym burns about 511 calories per hour, while a 160-lb. person performing a low-intensity workout burns 365 calories per hour, MayoClinic.com calculates. The Pilates Power Gym recommends starting at a low to moderate intensity level and gradually increasing the intensity as your fitness and strength levels improve.

Duration

Another major factor to the number of calories burned on the Pilates Power Gym is the duration of the workout. For example, a 140-lb. person burns more than 200 calories in a 60-minute workout, but only 100 during a 30-minute workout. The length of the workout is affected by your fitness level and overall goal for the specific workout. Beginners should start with a 10-minute workout one to two times per day and gradually work up to sessions of 30 to 60 minutes five to six days per week, Pilates Power Gym recommends.

Cardio

Adding cardiovascular activity to the Pilates Power Gym workout burns more calories than a traditional class. This approach can burn about 420 calories per hour, "Fitness" magazine reports, or about 17 percent more than traditional Pilates. Pilates Power Gym recommends adding cardio to your workout program two to three times per week. You can use running, walking, swimming, rowing or hiking for your cardio workout.
