The Sears DP Air Gometer exercise bike is a dual-motion machine that allows you to work your upper and lower body together. You can choose to only use the lower-body pedals or the upper-body swing arms, or you can use both simultaneously. The DP Air Gometer is an older model exercise bike so some of the parts are no longer available.
The DP Air Gometer
Diversified Products made the Air Gometer exercise bike in the early 1990s and sold it through Sears department stores. The machine is an upright exercise bike, which provides a low-impact workout. However, this bike is unique because it includes the moving arms. Leave your arms by your sides if you want to use the Air Gometer as a standard exercise bike. Place your feet on the frame and push only the handles for an upper body workout. You can also coordinate the upper- and lower-body movements for a full-body workout.
Function
The DP Air Gometer does not have a motor. It is a user-powered machine; when you pedal, fan blades create air resistance. The faster you pedal and move your arms, the faster the blades spin and the more resistance you create, which makes the workout more challenging.
The DP Air Gometer does have a small, battery-powered monitor. The screen displays your workout time, speed, distance, cadence, calories and pulse. The included ear piece plugs into the bottom of the monitor and sends your pulse information.
Parts
According to the parts diagram provided by Sears, the DP Air Gometer has 83 parts. The largest parts are the metal pieces that constitute the frame of the bike and the fan blades. Two large, plastic side shields and one front shield protect the internal parts. The drive belt, axle, the sprocket and numerous screws, bolts and caps move the fan blades when you pedal. Other parts include the handlebars, grips, seat and console upright.
Replacement Parts
Diversified Products went out of business in 1998 so you cannot obtain parts from this company. At the time of publication, Sears still offers some parts for the DP Air Gometer, but not many. A little less than half of the parts are available for sale on the Sears Parts Department website. Some of the available parts include handgrips, pedal kits, the pulse ear clip and numerous nuts, bolts and washers.
