Ginger beer is similar to ginger ale, but with a stronger, spicier flavor. Despite its name, ginger beer is not alcoholic. Ginger beer that's made with real ginger contains a natural compound called gingerols and offers a variety of health benefits along with its distinctive flavor. Look for ginger beer that's made with all natural ingredients to allow you to reap the benefits without suffering possible side effects from artificial ingredients.

Reducing Cancer Risks

At the 97th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer, research was presented that indicated that gingerols found in real ginger beer may kill ovarian cancer cells. Gingerol may also inhibit cancer cells in the colon from growing, according to research shown at the 2003 meeting at Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research. More research is necessary, but this indicates that compounds found in ginger beer may be helpful in reducing cancer risks.

Morning Sickness

A common symptom of pregnancy, morning sickness can occur at any time of day, not just in the morning. Start your day with a little ginger beer before you even get out of bed, and you may be able to ward off the nausea and vomiting that hits you when you first wake up. Sipping a bottle of ginger beer through the day may help relieve morning sickness that would be better termed "all-day sickness." Ginger can be as effective in relieving morning sickness as pharmaceutical remedies, but without the possible side effects of anti-nausea medication.

Motion Sickness

Nothing can ruin a nice, scenic drive or a leisurely boat ride like a nasty bout of motion sickness. Ginger has been proven to relieve the symptoms of motion sickness without bothersome side effects that can occur with anti-motion sickness medication. Drinking ginger beer before and during your trip may eliminate your motion sickness and allow you to enjoy the ride. Not only does it relieve and prevent the nausea and vomiting of motion sickness, but it also controls other symptoms such as cold sweats and dizziness.

Anti-Inflammatory

The gingerols in ginger beer may be effective in relieving inflammation in joints and muscles. Consuming ginger can help relieve the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, joint and muscle pain. Swelling due to arthritis is also reduced, and mobility is increased.
