Looking for a snack bar, protein bar or a meal replacement bar? Special K offers a variety of different bars with many flavors and nutrients. Available in multiple packs, Special K bars can serve as a quick response to hunger and eating on the go.

Cereal Bars

Special K offers six different cereal bars, including Strawberry, Blueberry, Chocolatey Drizzle and Vanilla Crisp, each containing 90 calories and 1.5 g of fat. The bars do not provide a significant source of protein (1 g) and are not a significant source of carbohydrates (18 g) or fiber (less than 1 g). The protein and carbohydrate value, coupled with the low amount of fiber in the bars, makes the cereal bars a small snack and not a source of lasting energy or fullness.

Protein Meal Bars

The Special K Protein Meal Bars each contain about 180 calories, 10 g of protein and 5 g of fiber. The fiber and protein content, as well as the 6 g of fat in the bars, makes it a more nutrient-dense choice than the cereal bar. While the name of the bars suggests they are meal replacements, the caloric value is low for a meal. A 2,000-calorie diet divided into three meals and two snacks budgets about 500 calories for each meal.

Protein Snack Bars

Special K products include the Chocolate Peanut Protein Snack Bars and the Chocolate Delight Protein Snack Bars. The bars are advertised as a protein snack, although one bar contains only 4 g of protein. Both of the bars are low in fiber and each contain 110 calories. High fiber snacks are more filling than low fiber snacks and help satisfy hunger in between meals. The snack bars both contain partially hydrogenated fat, the least healthy form of fat. Diets high in partially hydrogenated fat contribute to the development of heart disease and chronic health conditions.

Special K Challenge

Special K offers a diet plan that encourages participants to eat their products to lose weight. The plan consists of three meals throughout the day and two snacks. Dieters are allowed to eat a Protein Meal Bar for one or two of the meals. Less than 200 calories, the Protein Meal Bars do not provide adequate calories or nutritional value for two meals. Diets that consist of less than 1,200 calories lack the nutrients necessary for health and can can be dangerous to dieters.

Considerations

Talk to a health care provider before starting a diet. Eat the bars as snacks, rather than meal replacements. The bars can be a fast and easy snack for work, on the go or before a workout.
