Redline Energy drink is a dietary supplement manufactured by VPX Sports, a company that makes sports nutrition products such as protein powder and diet pills. Redline Energy drink is a highly caffeinated ready-to-drink beverage that is the "world's most potent energy drink," according to VPX Sports. While Redline may accomplish the energy promise, at least in the short term, there are potential side effects of which you should be aware.
Yohimbine Content
One potential danger of consuming the Redline Energy drink is the inclusion of yohimbine in this product. Yohimbine is intended to increase energy levels and promote weight loss, but it can be dangerous; the September 2009 edition of "Clinical Toxicology" reported that a bodybuilder who ingested 5 g of yohimbine during a competition had repeated seizures and went into a coma. VPX Sports does not disclose the amount of yohimbine in Redline Energy drink.
Caffeine Content
Redline Energy drink is very high in caffeine; an 8 oz. bottle of the beverage contains 316 mg of caffeine. This amount is more than nine times the amount of caffeine in a 12 oz. can of soda. Too much caffeine can cause anxiety, dizziness, nausea, restlessness and difficulty sleeping.
Huperzine A Content
Redline Energy drink contains clubmoss, an herbal extract that provides a chemical compound known as huperzine A. While huperzine A can have some benefits, including acting as an antioxidant, huperzine may also cause adverse effects. Nausea, blurred vision, dizziness, seizures and abnormal heart rhythm are all potential side effects of huperzine A.
Evodiamine Content
Evodiamine is an plant extract that is purported to increase your energy levels and endurance. However, consumption of evodiamine raises your body temperature and might also cause a loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can be detrimental if you're an athlete, as it could prevent you from consuming an adequate amount of calories to fuel your exercise sessions. There are no credible medical studies on the safety or efficacy of this alkaloid.
