A lack of energy will kill your mood and productivity as well as decrease focus and concentration. But this can be quickly tended to with some breathing techniques. They focus on using all portions of the lungs instead of only the upper and middle parts. Cleansing the lungs and allowing more oxygen to be absorbed can give you a significant boost in energy.

Basics of Breathing

The lungs provide the body with oxygen, which is then used for countless processes. The process starts by inhaling through your mouth or nose, and the air being heated. The air then travels down your windpipe into your lungs. Oxygen is then absorbed by the capillaries, which are smaller blood vessels, and then sent to the heart. The oxygenated blood is then pumped throughout your body and used for many tasks.

Stomach Breathing Exercises

This exercise will cleanse the lungs, relieve tension and boost energy. Start by lying on your back, with a small pillow under your neck. There should be a slight rise and fall of the stomach. Put your hands on your diaphragm, which is situated just below the rib cage. Apply a light pressure, which allows more air to be drawn in. Inhale slow and deep, continuing this for five minutes. While stomach breathing is most effective, chest breathing is used most often. In chest breathing, only the upper and middle sections of the lungs are used instead of incorporating the lower lungs.

Tai Chi

This is another type of breathing that aims to use all parts of the lungs. Start by standing in a comfortable position. Place your hands on your lower abs, palms down, slightly below the navel. Begin slowly breathing in and out through your nose. You should feel the lower abdominals rising and falling. Now begin to relax your face, mouth, neck, shoulders, chest, arms and eventually your whole body. After you are done, it should take a moment to regain stability and full awareness.

Chinese Breathing

This method uses quick, short breaths through the nose. Start standing with your arms extended out in front of you, parallel to the floor. Inhale. Then move your arms out to your side, still parallel to the floor. Inhale. Lastly, raise your arms above your head and inhale. Exhale out your mouth while simultaneously lowering your arms to your sides. Repeat this 10 times, but stop if you begin to feel lightheaded. You should feel more energetic and opened up physically afterward.
