Scientists have long touted the health benefits associated with grapefruits and grapefruit juices, from helping you lose weight to reducing your risk for serious diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Food manufacturers are responding by offering new lines of fruit juices free from sugar and other additives. Noble Juice, a division of Wm. G. Roe & Sons, Inc., produces Noble Express Super Red Grapefruit Juice.
Servings of Fruit
One half cup of 100 percent fruit juice is the equivalent to one serving of fruit, according to Fruit Juice Facts. The Super Red Grapefruit Juice contains 100 percent fruit juice. Some find grapefruit to be bitter and eating a half a grapefruit may seem more daunting than drinking an 8-oz. glass of tangy juice.
Bottling Information
Noble Juice bottles his Super Red Grapefruit Juice in containers made from 100 percent corn. These containers are biodegradable and made from renewable sources that are better for the environment, compared to plastic bottles. This juice is available in 12- and 32-oz. bottles. Noble juices are available across the United States. The manufacturer's website, Noble.com suggests a retail price of $3.49 for a 32-oz. bottle at the time of this printing.
Health Benefits
Pigmented varieties of grapefruit, such as the fruit Noble Juice uses in its Super Red Grapefruit Juice, get their color from lycopene. As an antioxidant, lycopene protects your cells against harmful free radicals formed when your body burns oxygen for energy. Your body cannot produce lycopene -- you must consume this important antioxidant through the food and beverages you consume.
Grapefruit juice is naturally low in calories and fat. When combined with a sensible diet and exercise, drinking Super Red Grapefruit Juice can help you lose weight. Grapefruit juice is naturally high in vitamin C and potassium. Drinking grapefruit juice will strengthen your immune system, helping you avoid colds and flu. Red grapefruit appears to reduce your risk for heart disease, according to Science Daily, by reducing your blood cholesterol levels. One grapefruit yields about 8 oz. of liquid, so you consume the juice equivalent of one and a half grapefruits in every 12-oz. bottle of Super Red Grapefruit Juice.
Contraindications
As with any grapefruit product, Super Red Grapefruit Juice may affect the way some medications work. Some drug interactions can be serious. Talk with your cardiologist about drinking grapefruit juice if you are taking statins to lower your cholesterol, anti-arrhythmia medication for an irregular heartbeat or calcium channel blockers to reduce your high blood pressure. Drinking grapefruit juice is contraindicated for patients taking some antidepressants, anti-anxiety or seizure medications.
