How to Set Up an Exercise Bar

An exercise bar, or pull-up bar, is an apparatus that allows you to perform numerous pull-up positions. The exercises help you develop your chest, back, triceps, biceps and arms utilizing the resistance of your body weight. Setting up an exercise bar is simple. You need a solid door frame for its location.

Step 1

Choose a doorway 24 to 32 inches wide to install your exercise bar. It's ideal if the doorway faces your television so you can use the bar while watching exercise videos. The doorway must be solid and durable enough to support your body weight.

Step 2

Place the door brackets 4 inches above the center of the door frame and mark holes with a pencil.

Step 3

Drill holes into the marks for the wall anchors using a drill bit that is ¼-inch. Insert the wall anchors into the holes after drilling.

Step 4

Insert the screws carefully into the wall anchors to hold your bracket in place. Place both ends of your exercise bar on the bracket. After securing the bracket, pull or hang on the exercise bar to make sure it is stable.
