Healthy Hypnosis Diet

Hypnosis is a therapeutic technique that may allow you to have a better focus and sustained concentration. Through hypnosis, some medical professional believe, you can learn new behaviors through modification programs as part of an ongoing therapeutic plan. One of the purported medical uses of hypnosis is to help you lose weight. As with any weight loss plan, you should speak with a medical professional before attempting any hypnosis diet.

Hypnosis Diet

Several products are sold as hypnosis therapies for weight loss. These products typically include CDs that offer self-help talks on certain topics, such as how to improve your self-concept and how to make smarter choices regarding physical activity and food. Additionally, some therapists offer hypnotic diet programs that require you to come to an office regularly for hypnotic treatments. Hypnotic therapists typically will take you though a step-by-step program that aims to improve your understanding of your behaviors and how to change these behaviors so that you can lose weight.

The Diet's Usefulness

According to "The Weight Loss Hypnosis Solution: Discover How To Lose Weight Without Diets or Willpower," you can effectively lose weight through hypnosis only by combining a hypnosis program with lifestyle changes that include exercise and diet modifications. Further, hypnosis diets show more effectiveness in individuals open to healthy food habits and exercise regiments. In other words, hypnosis alone is not a definitive solution to weight control or weight loss.

Differences

Both self-hypnosis and directed hypnosis programs from therapists have advantages and disadvantages. When you are trying to determine which type of program that will best suit your needs, you should consider which plan you will have an easier time staying with. You have to make a commitment to any hypnosis plan because hypnosis itself will not cause you to lose weight. Some people may find it unrealistic to commit to going to a therapist on a regular basis. On the other hand, some people may not have the self-discipline required with a self-directed hypnotic program.

Precautions

There are many hypnosis products on the market that claim to have the best method for losing weight through hypnosis. Further, many of these products claim to have the endorsement of specialists and the ability to yield results in a single session one. In addition to speaking with a medical professional prior to starting a hypnosis diet, you should always look for a program that combines hypnosis with a complete weight loss program that includes exercise and diet modifications.

Studies

One study published in the 1985 "Journal of Clinical Psychology" examined two groups of individuals. Group one received hypnosis as part of a diet program that also included diet modification and exercise. Group two only received the same diet program without the hypnosis. After nine weeks, the study found both groups lost an equal amount of weight. However, after two years, the group that received hypnosis continued to lose weight while most of the individuals in the group without hypnosis regained weight. Another study published in the 1996 "Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology" studied two groups of dieters. One group received hypnosis while the other group did not. The group that received hypnosis lost an average of 17 lbs. after six months while the group that did not receive hypnosis lost an average of less than 1 lb.
