Traditional Chinese medicine makes use of sometimes complex combinations to treat both male and female infertility. These formulas are generally made to meet the needs of individuals, because infertility can have any number of causes. Stress, diet, illness and genetic factors can all affect fertility, and different herbs have benefits for men and women. Individual herbs can be used by following the dosage instructions or direction of a professional. Always consult with your doctor before beginning self-treatment.
Step 1
Steep 1 tbsp. raw dong quai root or leaves in 8 oz. of water. Allow leaves to brew for five to 10 minutes and roots for 10 to 20. Drink 2 to 4 cups a day. Capsules and tinctures should be taken according to the package instructions. Fertility website Trying-to-Conceive recommends using dong quai only during the first half of your period because the herb may have estrogen-blocking qualities, but there is no research to support this.
Step 2
Take 30 to 40 mg of dried chasteberry daily. Take pills or extracts according to manufacturers' direction. Chasteberry, or vitex, balances the female hormones progesterone and estrogen and may help to regulate menstrual cycles.
Step 3
Steep 1 tsp. of dried passionflower in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink 1 cup daily. Passionflower may help to treat low testosterone in men by preventing the hormone from breaking down.
