Armour Thyroid is the name brand for dried thyroid or desiccated thyroid. Armour Thyroid is made up of hormones normally produced by the thyroid glandm, according to Drugs.com. These hormones are responsible for the control of the body's energy and metabolism. Armour Thyroid is given to individuals to treat thyroid disorders. Armour Thyroid side effects are usually due to a dose that is too large, reports eMedTV.com.

Cardiovascular Effects

An excessive dose of Armour Thyroid can lead to several cardiovascular side effects including heart palpitations, increased heart rate, heart failure, chest pain, heart attack, trouble breathing, pained breathing and/or increased blood pressure, according to eMedTV.com. These side effects can be serious and should be addressed by a medical care provider.

Other Side Effects

Other side effects from the use of Armour Thyroid may include increased appetite with weight loss, insomnia, mood changes, hair loss, flushed skin, weakened bones, menstrual irregularities, fertility problems, shakiness, muscle weakness, feeling hot often, sweating, fever, anxiousness, irritability, nervousness, hyperactivity, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and/or seizures. Many side effects are attributed to a dose that is too large, so consult with a doctor to adjust the dosage to eliminate these side effects.

Allergic Reaction

Some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to Armour Thyroid. Serious allergic reaction can be fatal, according to Drugs.com. Symptoms of allergic reaction include hives, trouble breathing, swelling of the face, swelling of the lips, swelling of the tongue and/or swelling of the throat.
